Premier League
I was away over the weekend, so I was disappointed this morning when I checked the website to find that Arsenal had lost their match with Bolton Wanderers (the team where Jun'ichi Inamoto played in 2001-2). Arsenal were top of the table until the New Year, but now they have fallen to third, after drawing most of their recent matches. Now they're fighting to stay in 3rd place. (131 words)

Missing word targets
Maybe you get sick one week, or you become very busy with other study, or your part-time job. In these circumstances, it is possible that you will fall behind the word target that week. Is there a penalty in this case?
The answer is "No", as long as you meet the target the following week. By the week after that, you should try to catch up with the schedule.
The best way to avoid problems with the targets is to write more than the target in the early weeks! Then, if you miss the weekly target one week, you will still be able to keep up with the schedule.

Word Targets
In this class, the most important thing is writing fluency. Therefore, we have a target for the semester of 10,000 words.
To help you reach this goal, we have weekly targets, too. Since there are about 12 weeks between the first class and the last class, we divide 10,000 words by 12 to get 835 words as the basic weekly target.
However, at the beginning of the course, some of you may not be accustomed to writing lots of English, so the target for the first two weeks is only one half of that (420 words), and the target for the 3rd week is 0.75 (625 words) of the basic weekly target.
By the 4th week, you will have become accustomed to writing regularly in English, so the target for the 4th, 5th, and 6th weeks is the basic weekly target of 835 words.
After a few weeks of writing 835 words, you will be ready to increase your pace, so the target for the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th weeks is 1.25 times the basic weekly target, i.e. 1050 words. In the final week, you will probably be busy with other things, so the target goes back to the basic weekly target of 835 words.
