Exodus, Five Star Life (rewrite)

Today, we watched two movie trailers. The second one was Exodus: Gods and Kings. This is a Ridley Scott (who directed Alien and Gladiator) film, starring Christian Bale and Sigourney Weaver. As one might expect from the title, it's about Moses and the Exodus from Ancient Egypt. Christian Bale plays Moses.

A Five Star Life was the other trailer we saw. It's an Italian movie starring Margherita Buy as a hotel critic. She spends her whole life traveling around the world staying in five-star hotels and writing about their service. She enjoys her life at first but becomes unsatisfied when her family starts having problems.

It's interesting to speculate what it would be like to have a job like that. I imagine that I would also enjoy it at first, but would only want to do it for a year or two. The ideal thing would be to review one or two hotels a year and then go back to my regular life. In that way, it would feel like a holiday.

Goals of the World Cup (rewrite)

Today we watched six of the best goals of the World Cup: David Villa against Australia; Messi against Bosnia and Herzegovina; Xhaka against France; Higuain against Belgium; Van Persie against Spain; and Tim Cahill against Holland. They were all good goals. The ones that stood out for me were Van Persie's, because it was a headed goal that lobbed the goalkeeper; Cahill's, because it was a great volley; Villa's, because it was a tricky shot and because the vertical pass that set up the cross for him was very nice; and Messi's, because it was created as well as scored by him. I guess my favorite was Villa's because it looked so cool.

Dead Man's River

"Oh, no, Jonas. My daughter is not for you. She can't marry a poor man. Go away and get some money. Then let's see…"

Jonas wants to marry Hetty, but her father won't let him because he doesn't have any money. But he hears people talking about gold in Dead Man's River and follows them. Bernie and Pete want Harry to show them where the gold is, but they are a little scared about ghosts in the river.

Harry and Jonas are scared of Bernie and Pete, because they are tough and have guns. But they manage to trick them. Does Jonas marry Hetty?

The Hunger Games, and other matters…

Today, we watched a teaser trailer for the third Hunger Games movie. I'm not sure when it's due to be released. Although there are only three books in the series, it looks like there will be four movies, with the third book being divided into two, just like the seventh Harry Potter book.

Earlier this morning, I watched the World Cup final. Germany beat Argentina 1–0, scoring in the 2nd half of extra time. Although I like the German team very much, for some reason I was cheering on the Argentina team. Messi played pretty well, but not great. Germany overall were better throughout the tournament.

The Shipwreck

"No! David! There's a shark. Don't go!" shouts Faye. "Stop! It's dangerous!"
David does not listen. He swims out to sea. He swims to the shark. Everybody is really worried about David. "What's he doing?" asks Tyler.

John, Daniela, Faye, David, and Tyler all go out in their boat to do some diving and swimming near Shark Island. They look for seashells, and they also find a shipwreck. But they are not so happy when they see a shark! But why does David swim towards it?

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and other matters…

Today we watched the trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a movie that's coming out this summer. It looks pretty exciting. Gary Oldman and Andy Serkis star, and Matt Reeves directs. It is the sequel to the 2011 Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie. I wonder if they will make any movies that cover the same content as the originals.

The World Cup is moving on fast. Chile, Uruguay, and Mexico have been knocked out. Brazil are still in the competition but looking vulnerable. Holland look exciting, and Robben is playing very well.

I Spy

Edgar is at the wrong bus stop… Edgar sees a girl there. The girl is wearing a gray hat. She has long black hair, and is wearing a green sweater and blue jeans. She is wearing the same clothes as the woman. She has the same bag, too. Her name is Yoon-Hee.

Edgar is a spy, just starting his new job. He has an arrangement with a woman to exchange some money and top secret documents. But he gets off to a bad start! He steals a bike to try to get the bag back. He finds Yoon-Hee in the park, and tries to get the bag, but she runs to the bus first. (113 words)

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and other matters

Today we saw a trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It is due to come out this year, and it's the sequel to 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which gave an account of life before the happenings before the original Planet of the Apes movies from the 1960s and 1970s. Like Rise of the Planet of the Apes, this one includes Andy Serkis as Caesar. The other actors, though, are very different. There's no James Franco, and Jason Clarke and Keri Russell star as people who want to be friends with the apes, while Gary Oldman is determined to war with them.

Hollywood has too many sequels and remakes, but in this case I think they're on to a good thing. Rise of the Planet of the Apes used the more advanced technology available tastefully to make a really good movie that didn't overlap with the original Charlton Heston movies. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes appears to be faithful to that world and to take the story in new and exciting directions. I'm looking forward to watching Gary Oldman, too.

The County Fair was beginning and Wilbur the Pig was entering a competition. He bathed in buttermilk and Charlotte and Templeton helped him prepare. He was worried about a magnificent pig called Uncle. But he was so happy to have good friends.

Third Person

Today we watched the trailer for Third Person, a movie starring Liam Neeson, Mila Kunis, Adrien Brody, and Kim Basinger. It was directed by Paul Haggis, who also directed Crash, which won the Academy Award for best movie a few years ago.

Most of the reviews I have seen were not very favorable, but it looks rather interesting just from the trailer. Liam Neeson plays a writer with writer's block. Everyone seems to have some romantic problems. James Franco also appears.

Another movie that has just arrived is Three Days to Kill, which stars Kevin Costner and is called Last Mission in Japanese. Like Third Person, it doesn't have very good reviews but I'd like to see it if i get the chance.

Fox and His Friends

Fox and His Friends is a collection of short stories about Edward Marshall's Fox character. There are three stories: Fox in Trouble, Fox All Wet, and Fox on Duty. In most cases, Fox wants to go out to play with his friends alone, but his mother makes him take his younger sister Louise. But he doesn't look after her very well, and she disappears. Fortunately, he finds her and everything is OK in the end. Usually, he comes to understand something about himself and the importance of being nice to his sister.

The Good Lie

Today we watched the trailer for The Good Lie, a new movie starring Reese Witherspoon. It's based on a true story about some boys who fled the civil war in Sudan and went to live in America. They didn't have anywhere to stay, so Reese Witherspoon let them stay at her house. She helped to find them jobs on a farm. They asked the farmer whether there were any lions nearby.

Reese Witherspoon has been in a number of good movies, including Legally Blond and Walk the Line. She won an Academy Award for Walk the line, in which she played Johnny Cash's wife. (Johnny Cash was played by Joaquin Phoenix.)

21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street

Today we watched two move trailers, 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. 21 Jump Street is a remake of the old TV series starring Johnny Depp, although it is remade as a comedy. We also saw a few clips from that series.

One of the actors in the new 21 and 22 Jump Street is Jonah Hill. He became famous with Moneyball, the movie starring Brad Pitt that was based on a true story of a baseball team.

Channing Tatum is now quite a big star, known for his work in Side Effects, White House Down, and Haywire. The critics say that he and Jonah Hill combine well for good comic effect.

21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street

Today we watched two trailers: 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. 21 Jump Street was originally a serious TV series starring Johnny Depp. The 2012 remake was a comedy starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. It was very successful, so a sequel is already coming out. This one is 22 Jump Street. (The reason is that someone bought 21 Jump Street, so they had to go next door.)

In 21 Jump Street, Hill and Tatum have to play undercover high school students; in 22 Jump Street, I think they are university students. Hill is very weak, so he has problems when they play American football or do anything energetic. Tatum is not very clever, so he has problems when they have to study. They compensate for each other's weaknesses.

Martina the Cockroach

Martina the Cockroach is a cute story in the Scholastic Folk & Fairy Tale Easy Readers series. Martina finds a gold coin and buys some clothes, then decides to get married. She decides she doesn't want to marry a noisy husband, so she listens to various animals speak. A cat, a rooster, a frog, and a dog all ask her to marry them, but she says no. Who do you think she marries in the end?
